Spaces macro is similar to Space Planner in that it enables you to define and report on room spaces in a highly configurable manner, but note that it is a different product and is not compatible with spaces created with Space Planner.
Like Space Planner, it is used to define, label, and report on spaces. The spaces are created in your drawing as polylines with special attributes which allow the macro to maintain labels and report on the spaces.
Videos demonstrating some of the Space macro's features can be viewed using the buttons below:
Following is a list of some of the macro's functionality and differences from Space Planner:
- | Label layout can be defined as 5 lines of text with different font attributes for each line, OR labels can be defined using a symbol, allowing almost limitless formatting options for the label (Space Planner allowed the 5 lines of text option only). |
- | Common fields (such as space name, number, dimensions, area, perimieter etc.) are pre-defined. You have the ability to define your own new fields which can be included in both labels and reports (Space Planner did not allow you to define fields). |
- | Spaces can be assigned to different categories, and certain default attributes (fill colour, ceiling height and user defined field values) can be assigned to each category. |
- | Report layout can be defined with up to 10 columns, and can optionally contain sub-totals based on either layer or category. |
- | Reports can be defined to include spaces based on either layer or area selection. If a report is defined to include spaces based on layer, it can optionally be automatically refreshed to include any new spaces created on the relevant layer(s). |
- | Areas, dimensions etc. for a space can be calculated based on the actual polyline entered (same as Space Planner), OR can take into account the fact that you may subsequently create walls centered on the boundaries of your blocked spaces (in which case areas, dimensions etc. are calculated on a polyline offset half a wall-width inside the actual polyline you entered). |
- | Better reporting of overall dimensions for spaces that are not parallel to the x/y axis. Space planner would report the x and y extents of a space (i.e. measurements parallel to the axis), but Spaces will report dimensions based on the angle of the space (i.e. for a simple rectangular space it will report the actual dimensions of the sides). |
- | Spaces gives you the option to import/export space details from/to Excel. |
- | Spaces allows you to define different units or precision for measurements on labels and reports. You can also define different units/precision for exported values (values are exported to the clipboard as text and use the defined units and precision; measurements exported to Excel use the units that are configured for clipboard, but are exported as numbers with full available precision so you can format the cells and define number of decimal places in Excel itself). |
- | Spaces included in the Summary Report can be refined by layer/category if required. |
- | Spaces allows you to display detailed information about each space, including the length of each individual side of a space. |
Compatibility: This macro is compatible with DataCAD versions 17 onwards. It is NOT compatible with Spirit.

Please Note: As a (very) small software developer with products relevant to quite a small audience my files are not downloaded by many people. Browsers may show warnings about (or even block) downloads for reasons such as "file isn't commonly downloaded and may be dangerous". I do not believe there is anything dangerous in my downloads. I have submitted this particular download to Virus Total, and 87 of 91 virus detection programs tested flagged it as "Clean" (3 reported it as "Malicious" and 1 as "Suspicious" - I believe these are false positives). Many anti-virus vendors allow you to submit false positive detections for further analysis, but not all of them make it easy and I don't have the resources to follow up all false positives. If your particular anti-virus flags my downloads please submit it to them or let me know so that I can follow up. |
